Who Can Provide Me with Reliable Dissertation Topics for Free

Conducting an independent research project can be a daunting task for any student.  In your dissertation you will be expected to undertake an in-depth discourse into a particular area of interest within your academic discipline.  If you’re having difficulty coming up with a decent dissertation topic then don’t worry, you’re definitely not the first person to struggle with this!  Take note of the following suggestions to aid you in your search for a reliable research question.

• What Interests You?

By the time you are expected to write a dissertation you should be at least somewhat familiar with the subject matter.  Maybe you’re just having some difficulty honing in on a specific area to investigate.  You will always do your best work if you have some interest in the topic, so come up with some ideas about what matters to you.  Even if you can only think of very general or vague ideas, it’s a good starting point.

• Do Some Research

Textbooks usually provide a theoretical framework that is generally accepted in the academic community.  Journal articles provide individual research articles and papers conducted by a researcher or group of researchers.  Journal’s can be very helpful in that they usually contain the most current and contemporary research on a given topic.  Sites like JSTOR, EBSCOHOST and PsycArticles are databases that contain publications from a number of different journals.

Finding gaps in the literature (no matter how small), or content that can be improved upon and added to is ideal.  The best research papers ask questions that haven’t been asked before.

• Ask Your Advisors

Your professors, tutors and advisors have probably written many research papers in their academic careers.  You’re expected to discover your own topic but that doesn’t mean you can’t discuss the possibilities with them and ask for a bit of guidance.  If you already have a few ideas and have done some research then ask someone with a bit more experience if they can point you in the right direction.

• Online Services

There are a number of free online resources that provide aid for dissertation writing.  Always be wary of online services as they may not be reliable and valid for academic work.  It’s important to know where you are getting the information, which is providing it and what qualifies them to be a reputable source.
