Doctoral Dissertation Writing Guidelines: Creating A Strong Introduction

A doctoral dissertation is an extended or structured piece of academic writing. It is a stressful work. To write a doctoral piece, we need to generate a topic by our self. This helps to find true capability of a student. It also helps you to find the opportunity for your studies and make you expertise in the field of Intellectual, social research, and organizational skills. It aims to find out writer’s ability to carry out highly independent study and research. We could also say that it is an opportunity for originality and intellectual independence. Basic rules of a doctoral dissertation structure

• Length of the page: doctoral dissertation is an extended piece of writing, which is divided into many chapters.


• Title page: It must start with a title page. It announces the title, subtitle, writer of the thesis. It also gives the name of the institution he or she is writing for. It also gives the writer’s degree.


• Copyright Page: It must contain the basic component of copyright notice like copyright’s symbol, legal name of the author and year in which the copyright is secured by publication.


• Content table: It gives simple view of what is in the thesis or it includes short description of each section or chapter.


• Abstract: It is a short summary of the doctoral dissertation which describes your research. It makes examiner easier to understand the dissertation and also ensures that an original contribution is nail to the page.


• Front matter: It is the first section of the thesis which include single or multiple title pages where the author is responsible for writing the preface, acknowledgement section, intro, dedication and prologue.


• Body of the text: It contains all the information collected by you in a separate chapter. It gives a brief summary of the salient arguments of the main work that attempts to give a sense of completeness to the work.


• Back matter or the bibliography: It is a piece of writing that is gathered at the end of the work. So a doctoral dissertation must include the list of source which you have used in your research work.


• Appendices: It gives the detail or updates the information found in the main work.

In addition to above, one also has to understand the style of writing; the uniqueness in the work as well as one has to keep a track of the references and the materials which are used to form the doctoral dissertation.
